On the Mac, notifications won\u2019t generally wake you up, but they can be distracting when you\u2019re trying to focus. Or, imagine the embarrassment if you get a text message from a snarky buddy while you\u2019re giving a Keynote presentation. Do Not Disturb to the rescue!<\/p>\n<p>In both iOS and macOS, you can engage Do Not Disturb manually at any time. That\u2019s perfect if you want to make sure your iPhone doesn\u2019t make noise in the theater or prevent your Mac from showing notifications while showing your latest work to your boss.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In iOS, either go to Settings &gt; Do Not Disturb and toggle the Manual switch, or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal Control Center and tap the Do Not Disturb button. For a quicker way, Option-click the Notification Center icon. In Sierra, Siri can control Do Not Disturb as well. The Notification Center icon is light gray instead of black when Do No Disturb is on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tcn.tidbits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Do-Not-Disturb-NC-manual.png\" alt=\"do-not-disturb-nc-manual\" width=\"317\" height=\"119\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 317px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 317\/119;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can turn Do Not Disturb off manually (which is a good idea if you\u2019ve disabled it on your iPhone during a doctor\u2019s appointment, for instance). On the Mac, it turns off automatically at midnight.<\/p>\n<p>No one wants to enable Do Not Disturb manually every night. On both platforms, you can allow repeated calls through \u2014 if someone wants to get in touch badly enough to try twice in quick succession, it\u2019s probably important.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly everyone should be using Do Not Disturb, so if you haven\u2019t taken advantage of it yet, check it out now, before an errant phone call or iOS notification wakes you in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Don\u2019t be embarrassed by a phone call in the theater, constant text messages while at the doctor, or email notifications during a presentation\u2014in both iOS and macOS, you can use Do Not Disturb to drop a cone of silence manually or on a schedule.
