How You Can Control Notifications on Your iPhone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is every app on your iPhone or iPad constantly nagging you with notifications? It\u2019s like a three-year-old saying \u201cLook at me!\u201d every few minutes, but on the plus side, a little work in the Settings app can quiet your device. And it won\u2019t whine about being sent to time-out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To get started, go to Settings &gt; Notifications and check out the list of apps. Every app that can provide notifications appears here, so it might be a long list. Under the app\u2019s name is a summary of what notifications it can present. That isn\u2019t to say it will abuse that right to show you notifications\u2014every app is different in how chatty it is. Tap an app in the list to see its notification settings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4578 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tcn.tidbits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/control-notifications-settings.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"509\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 584px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 584\/509;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are six notification settings available to apps, but not every app will avail itself of all of them. Here\u2019s what these settings do:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4600 alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tcn.tidbits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/control-notifications-NC-576x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"428\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 241px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 241\/428;\" \/>Allow Notifications:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is the master switch. Turn it off if you never, ever, under any circumstances, want to get a notification from the app.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Show in Notification Center:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you swipe down from the top of the screen on an iOS device, you\u2019ll reveal Notification Center, which collects notifications from all apps in one place. It\u2019s a handy spot to review banner notifications you couldn\u2019t read in time, or notifications that you never saw originally. Turn this switch off if you don\u2019t want the app\u2019s notifications to appear in Notification Center. In general, it\u2019s best to leave it on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sounds:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Those who dislike being interrupted by inscrutable noises from their pockets or purses should disable sounds. If you really don\u2019t like sounds coming from your iPhone, turn off the ringer switch on the side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Badge App Icon:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Many apps, including Mail, Reminders, and Calendar, can tell you how many unread messages, overdue events, or other waiting items they contain. They do this by putting a red number badge on the app\u2019s icon. If you don\u2019t find that number useful\u2014knowing that you have 13,862 unread email messages isn\u2019t exactly calming\u2014you can turn off the badge for the app.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4577 alignnone lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tcn.tidbits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/control-notifications-badges.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"218\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 261px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 261\/218;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Show on Lock Screen:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Only important notifications should appear on your Lock screen, so you can see what\u2019s happening at a glance. If you have a recipe app that likes to tell you about every new recipe, you might want to disable this option to prevent it from cluttering your Lock screen with trivialities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Alert Style When Unlocked:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The last option is the notification style the app will use when you\u2019re actively using the device. You have three choices here: None, Banners, and Alerts. Select None if you don\u2019t want to be bothered while you\u2019re working on the device. Banners and alerts are similar, but banners slide down from the top of the screen, pause briefly, and then slide back up, whereas alerts stick around until you dismiss them. In general, use banners for most things, and restrict alerts to only the most important apps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t need to sit down and go through every app in the Notifications screen. Instead, just let apps do what they want by default, and take side trips to Settings &gt; Notifications whenever an app starts to annoy you with the frequency, location, or type of notifications.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Twitter:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Annoyed by the constant barrage of alerts on your iPhone?
