{"id":28443,"date":"2018-12-12T08:59:44","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T13:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.computeradvantage.us\/v3\/?p=28443"},"modified":"2018-12-12T08:59:44","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T13:59:44","slug":"13-inch-macbook-pro-non-touch-bar-solid-state-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.computeradvantage.us\/v3\/13-inch-macbook-pro-non-touch-bar-solid-state-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"13-Inch MacBook Pro (non Touch-Bar) Solid State Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple has determined that a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives (SSD) used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units have an issue that may result in data loss and failure of the drive. 13-inch MacBook Pro units with affected drives were sold between June 2017 and June 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will service affected drives, free of charge. Apple recommends having your drive serviced as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Apple will also send an email to customers, who registered their device with Apple, to let them know about this program.<\/p>\n<p>The full Apple Article with serial number checker is here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/support\/13-inch-macbook-pro-solid-state-drive-service-program\/\">https:\/\/www.apple.com\/support\/13-inch-macbook-pro-solid-state-drive-service-program\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This program does not affect 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar or older 13-inch MacBook Pro models.<\/p>\n<h2>Service Process<\/h2>\n<p>Your 13-inch MacBook Pro will be examined prior to service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order.<\/p>\n<p><b>Prior to service, it&#8217;s important to do a full <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT201250\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back up of your data<\/a> because your drive will be erased as part of the service process.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"square\">\n<li>A technician will run a utility to update your drive firmware which will take approximately one hour or less.<\/li>\n<li>Your 13-inch MacBook Pro will be returned to you with macOS re-installed.<\/li>\n<li>After service, you will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT203981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">restore your data from a backup<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since your computer will not be able to access the internet until after you do a restore, we recommend that you have another device, such as your iPhone, to view the Apple support article about restoring your data from backup.<\/p>\n<p>Note: Any files that were already corrupted prior to service, cannot be restored.<\/p>\n<p>Choose one of the options below to have your drive serviced.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"square\">\n<li>Find an <a href=\"https:\/\/getsupport.apple.com\/?PGF=PGF12003&amp;category_id=SC0999&amp;symptom_id=99910&amp;solution=CIN&amp;caller=erep\" rel=\"nofollow\">Apple Authorized Service Provider<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Make an appointment at an <a href=\"https:\/\/getsupport.apple.com\/?PGF=PGF12003&amp;category_id=SC0999&amp;symptom_id=99910&amp;solution=CIN&amp;caller=erep\" rel=\"nofollow\">Apple Retail Store<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Contact <a href=\"https:\/\/getsupport.apple.com\/?PGF=PGF12003&amp;category_id=SC0999&amp;symptom_id=99910&amp;caller=erep\" rel=\"nofollow\">Apple Support<\/a> to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If your 13-inch MacBook Pro has any damage which impairs our ability to service the drive, that issue will need to be resolved prior to service.
